Welcome to Year 3, River Class at Yarmouth Primary
We welcome you and your child to Key Stage 2 and Year 3 River class. This is to let you know about some of our routines.
Staff – The teachers for River Class are Mrs Plant and Mrs Smith supported by Mrs Bristow in the mornings and Mrs George in the afternoons.
Mrs Smith will be in class on a Monday and Tuesday and Mrs Plant Wednesday to Friday.
Please see below for key information.
AM & PM Routines
Early morning drop off at school is 8:30am where the children will be collected from the main playground.
End of day pick up from school will be 3pm again from the main playground.
Uniform – We ask that you regularly check that all clothing is clearly named, especially jumpers and coats, including their PE kits. The children need a hat particularly in hot weather. It is essential they have a coat each day as we like to get the children out at playtime every day, even in light rain!
PE & Outdoor Learning
P.E – Our class will have PE on a Monday, please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit and has suitable kit for an outdoor PE lesson – trousers and a jumper.
Outdoor Learning – Our Outdoor Learning day is on a Tuesday with Miss Gates. Your children will need to come to school prepared for outdoor learning. Trousers, jumpers, waterproof coats and trousers. They will need to bring suitable shoes/wellies they can change into. Again make sure all their belongings are named.
Dojo – We will continue to use this for important communication and rewards. Please do message us if you would like to arrange a meeting with us if you haven’t already had a chance to meet us during this week.
Food & Drink
Fruit time – The children can bring in their own piece of fruit for their morning break.
Drinks – Each child will need to bring in a named water bottle to drink water throughout the day. They may have a different drink to have with their lunch if they choose to.
Pencil cases- your child is welcome to bring in their own small pencil case, which they are responsible for, it is not however essential as we will provide all necessary equipment. If the pencil cases become a problem, we may ask the children to leave them at home.
Reading – We will be doing various reading activities every day, and therefore please make sure that the children always have their books in their reading bags in school. Children will continue with their reading record, and it is helpful if you can write in it each time you read with your child, even books read from home. When your child reads at school, will do the same to keep you informed of your child’s progress. However, I need to stress that these books are mainly a home reading book, and we will not always hear them read these books in school.
Homework – The expectation is the children will read daily at home and work on their times tables. They will have access to Times Table Rock Stars to help with this. Please dojo me if you need login details. We will have a spelling focus and will be expecting the children to use these words within their writing.
We were given a challenge to create the tallest structure made of just spaghetti and marshmallows! (Linked with human Geography too)
We researched tall structures on the internet and sketched some designs. We then worked as a team to create the tallest structure possible. We showed perseverance, determination and teamwork. We then evaluated our work and thought about what worked well, what didn’t work well and what we would do differently next time.
