Welcome to Year 2, Bay Class at Yarmouth Primary

Welcome to Year 2 and welcome to Bay Class. We are joining together in our new classroom and making lots of new friends this term. I am Miss Poulton and I will be teaching every day; alongside Mrs Grieve, Mrs Sharpe, Mr McCarty, Miss Chiverton and Mrs Harris supporting in class across the week.

Please see below for key information.

Uniform – Please label your child’s uniform and P.E kit clearly and ensure they have appropriate clothing for our changeable weather. We will be outside rain or shine!

PE & Outdoor Learning

P.E. is on Mondays and Miss Gates will teach Outdoor Learning on Tuesdays. P.E kit for the weather and suitable outdoor clothing on Tuesdays as usual please so we can throw ourselves into this exciting learning.

Class Dojo

Class Dojo – We are all connected on Class Dojo now which is fantastic! This is how we will give you any important information and how you can keep in touch with me if you have any concerns or wish to celebrate something your child has done at home.

Food & Drink

Fruit and drinks – We will provide a piece of fruit or a healthy snack for morning break time. Each child will need to bring in a named water bottle to drink throughout the day. Water bottles will be easily accessible in the class room and the children are given lots of opportunities to have a drink throughout the day.

Lunchboxes – These will be stored on their pegs just outside the classroom. Please remember we are a nut free school.

Reading – Each child has been given a reading record so that any reading done at home or school can be logged. Even 5 minutes at home each day makes a huge difference. These books are levelled and are mainly for home reading. We have a fantastic library here, as well as many lovely books in our classroom for children to enjoy.

Y2 The New Carnival Company, Schools Heritage & Dimbola Lodge Museum

Back in March, Year Two at Yarmouth had the opportunity to work with The New Carnival Company, Schools Heritage and Dimbola Lodge Museum too!
We prepared for our visit to the Freshwater home of Julia Margaret Cameron by learning about her Victorian life and works and by immersing ourselves in the sights, sounds and smells of India. The museum trip was so exciting and we got to make photograms in the darkroom and Estelle taught us about Julia’s home and who would have lived and worked in their  house.
Hannah and Katy from The New Carnival Company came to school to teach us how to make special drums, create a ‘pandal’ statue and to perform a celebratory dance –
we already knew about the Hindu festival of Durga Puja and our clay and rangoli pandal is spectacular!
Chris and Frankie from The New Carnival Company came to see our final dance performance and they had wonderful things to say about all the creativity and hard work the children put into it.
