Toys & Belongings

Please do not allow your child to bring toys into school. Pencil cases are allowed but please ensure they are suitable for a classroom environment.

PE & Outdoor Learning

P.E – Our class will have PE lessons on a Wednesday and Thursday. Can we please ask that the children come to school wearing their PE kit on these days.

Forest Schools – Forest School will be on a Monday. Please can the children wear their PE kit and bring suitable waterproofs to change into if required.

Reading

We will be doing various reading activities every day, and therefore please make sure that the children bring their reading book in daily. The children in Year 5 now have opportunities to go to the library on a much more regular basis and I will be really encouraging them to read a range of different genres throughout the year. Please, please can I ask that you still continue to read with your child at home. It has been heavily evidenced, within research, of how reading at home has an impact on your child’s development within school.

Food & Drink

Drinks – Each child will need to bring in a named water bottle to drink from throughout the day.

Snacks – Snacks must now be eaten during playtime in which there is designated area for them to go. Please can I remind you to ensure that these are healthy snacks. Please no chocolate/sweets etc.

Lunchboxes – These are stored on a shelf in the classroom. Please can you ensure these are labelled.

Uniform

We ask that you regularly check that all clothing is clearly labelled, especially jumpers and coats, including their PE kit, and that all children are provided with a hat in hot weather, and a coat when it is cold or wet.  We like to get the children out at playtime every day, even in light rain! Due to the children now being in Year 5 we do emphasis that they need to take a responsibility for their own belongings.

Homework

Spellings: Weekly spelling will be sent home to learn. They will be set on a Friday to be tested the following Friday.

Reading: As discussed above the expectation will be that children read as much as possible at home

Times Tables: Children will be allocated Times Tables to complete on play.ttrockstars.com.

Term: An optional selection of tasks will be sent home linked to the current learning for children to undertake if they wish.
