Homework Expectations

We would like the children to read daily or as much as possible. They can read anything at all so don’t feel it only has to be their school reading book. Our main weekly homework is to learn a set of spellings and apply them to sentences. Also there will be a piece of Numeracy work linked to what they are learning. After Christmas we will send home a reading comprehension exercise each week, but this can take place of reading their school reading book. Each half term the children are encouraged to complete a piece of work based on the topic they are learning about. Details of this home based task will be on the parent information page sent out at the beginning of each half term.

Our classroom has a small lending library where children can choose a book to enjoy at home for a week, also we have resident bears that go home each night to enjoy time with a child. Spencer and Charlie Bear can be taken home and then a child can draw and write about their adventures in a book that will be shared with the class. We do have holiday bears as well, so if you are going on holiday and would like to take a bear with you, complete with suitcase and passport, please let us know. All we ask for, is a postcard written about the adventure you are having and posted back to the class.

Finally, we hope you and your child will enjoy being in year 2 this year. If you need to contact us, please use the Dojo messaging service, leave a message at the school office, or catch us before or after school if we are available.

We are looking forward to working with you all this year.

From the year 2 team.
