Year 1 & 2

We are a Year 1 and 2 class – Yellow Class

Dear Parents/Carers,

This year in Yellow Class the staff team are Liam Roberts (Teacher), Georgie Bucket (HLTA), Lisa Mathews (HLTA) Anna Bristow (1-1 Support). Sylvia Smith (Teacher) will be working Tuesday morning and all day on Wednesday to give Mr Roberts his statutory time for professional development.

The start of the school day remains 8:40am; children will be greeted on the playground and will walk in together as a class. The school day will finish at 3:00pm and children will be escorted to the playground gate to be collected by parents/carers. All children taking part in afterschool clubs will be collected separately.

PE will take place on Thursday and Friday afternoons and children will be expected to keep PE kit in school at all times, Can I also please kindly suggest ensuring your child has a named PE kit to prevent any complications that may occur otherwise. Outdoor PE is scheduled for Thursday afternoon and as the winter months draw in it will be expected that your child has suitable clothes: jumper; trousers etc. On PE days we ask that your child does not come to school wearing earrings. If you cannot take out your child’s earring can you please provide surgical tape to ensure that we can adhere to health and safety requirements.

In line with the Healthy Schools Initiative you are more than welcome to send your child to school with a bottle of water that they will have access to throughout the day in class. We ask that no juice or fizzy drinks are provided for the classroom, only water. Children may have juice for packed lunches only. Children at break time will still be provided with fruit, however, you are more than welcome to provide your own fruit if you wish or another healthy snack. Please no nut products though as we have allergies in the school.

Reading skills are vitally important to a child’s academic development, we will hear your child read a minimum of twice weekly. To support this we ask that you listen to your child read regularly at home, after reading can you assure that you record and leave a comment in their reading dairies. Homework and spellings for the week will be given out on Friday afternoons and any homework will be expected in by Wednesday morning, all spelling tests will take place on Friday mornings.

We will be sending out regular updates about your child’s learning, however we do operate an open door policy in Yellow Class and ask that if there is anything you are unsure of or concerned about please do come and discuss this with either Mr Roberts or Mrs Smith.

Thank you for taking the time in reading this letter, it has hopefully cleared up any uncertain areas. Although if there is anything you would still like to find out or if you do have any questions please come and see one of the Yellow Class Team.

Yours Sincerely,
The Yellow Class Team
