F Year 3 & 4

Welcome to Years 3 and 4 – Blue Class

We welcome you and your child to Key Stage 2 Blue 2 class. This is to let you know about some of our routines.

Staff – The teacher for Blue 2 Class is Mrs Smith supported by Mrs Sharpe (TA) every morning and Mrs Munn (HLTA) on a Wednesday.

Morning drop off and end of day – Your child can brought to the side entrance at 8:40am where a member of staff will meet them. They will be at the same door for collection at the end of the day at 3:00pm. Only one parent/carer to be on site to drop off or collect their child. Please ensure you maintain social distancing.
In line with Government guidance, please do not send unnecessary items from home into school.
• Children can bring in a bag, lunchbox, water bottle, pencil case and book.
• Fruit time – The children can bring in their own piece of fruit for break time.
• Drinks – Each child will need to bring in a named water bottle to drink water throughout the day. Please make sure it is just water for drinking in the class. They may bring other drink for lunchtime.
• Please ensure the items are clearly labelled and washed daily.
• Clothing worn to school must be machine washable. Please can children come to school wearing their usual school uniform.

Uniform – We ask that you regularly check that all clothing is clearly labelled, especially jumpers and coats, including their PE kit, and that all children are provided with a hat in hot weather, and a coat when it is cold or wet. We like to get the children out at playtime every day, even in light rain!

PE and Forest school day is Wednesday and just PE on a Friday – We are happy if the children wear their PE kit on their allocated PE/ Forest school days. This is to minimize items being brought into school. On Forest school day, they do need to remember to bring in their rainwear and wellingtons.

Reading – This is a vital part of your child’s learning. We will hear your child read in groups or individually every week. To support your child, we ask that you listen to them read as often as possible at home and question them on the text. Please record every time you listen to your child read, or they read to themselves, in their reading record.

Homework – Each half term, your child will be sent home with an optional topic related homework task. This will help develop their independent working skills as well as support the work we do in class.
Spelling homework will be sent as a variety of tasks and activities. They will be informally tested in school over the weeks.
Maths homework will be in the form of times tables tasks and will be sent home on a Monday and expected to be returned by Friday morning. Please make sure your child is practising their times tables as Year 4s must now undergo a national test at the end of the year.
They will be bringing home a log in for Times Tables Rock Stars as these are excellent ways for them to practise at home.

If you wish to discuss anything further, please come and see me at the end of school.
We look forward to working with your children this year.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs S. Smith and the Blue2 class team
