Isle of Wight Music Dance and Drama Festival – Winners!
On Friday 10th March, the school choir attended and competed in the Isle of Wight Music Dance and Drama Festival which is an annual event and currently in its 87th year.  The children took part in two classes.  The first being a Primary School Choirs Year 6 and Under.  This was a competitive class and we competed against 11 other Island schools.  Because of the high number of entrants this class was split over two days and we competed on the Friday with another 5 schools. For this class we had to prepare two contrasting pieces to sing to the adjudicator.  We sang Bessie the Black Cat and Hope of Heaven. The adjudicator gave her feedback to all the schools on each day and our comments are very positive.  As the class was split over two days we had to wait for the marks to be announced on Saturday.  The choir was awarded 89 marks which made them the overall winner!
The second class was a workshop class in  which we prepared a On an Eagle’s Wing, a piece of music set by the festival to perform to the adjudicator, and then she worked with the choir to make our performance even better.  We had great fun in this class and even got some of the audience involved!
As we won our competition class we were awarded the Newport Parish Council Shield.  On Sunday 2nd April  4 representatives of the choir- Maisie Cool, Jack Coghlan, Ellie-Mae Knight and Daisy Thurman, Mrs Thompson, Mrs Blackburn and Mrs Grainger attended the Isle of Wight Music, Dance and Drama Festival Awards to receive our shield.  We were also awarded a second cup called the John Flower Cup for being the choir out of the Junior and Senior sections to be awarded the highest mark!
The Shield, the John Flower Cup, Certificates and comment sheet are in the Foyer for you to see!
The children were amazing not only with their singing but with their behaviour and respect for the other schools.  Well Done to everyone and a special Thank You to Mrs June Cox for helping prepare the choir and accompanying the pieces for us.

Bike Training

These pictures are from the cycle training. This was the result of the Active Travel Grant which allowed us to hire in 24 bikes. Year 4 and 6 received 4 lessons each, Year 5 2 lessons and an after school club for KS2 children. In the club and in the lessons we saw great success with the confidence growing with so many of them.
